2011 was a very good year to me. I got engaged, I turned the BIG 3-0 which was celebrated with a great surprise party compliments of my fiance, I became an aunt, I ran two more half marathons among several other road races, my fiance landed an incredible new job opportunity, and I was given some great new opportunities at work. It was a year filled with fun, excitement, family, friends, and a lot to look forward to.
To celebrate a kick ass 2011, my fiance and I rang in 2012 in NYC. We did it two years ago and had a blast so we decided to do it again. We were originally going to stay with friends, but decided to splurge and get a hotel for three nights, because this time we wanted to go bigger and better! For New Years Eve we did a NYC harbor cruise. Thanks to my friend Amy and I, we somehow landed ourselves on a much nicer “VIP” boat than what we had actually signed up for. HUGE score! With friends, incredible views of the city, a DJ, dancing, food, dessert, open bar, and an awesome display of fireworks over the water at midnight, I can honestly say it was by far the best and coolest New Years to date. One of the first things I said to my fiance at the stroke of midnight, after “Happy New Year” and a kiss was “WE’RE GETTING MARRIED THIS YEAR!” The New Years Eve cruise was a really neat way to party the year away and ring in our upcoming year.
The rest of our trip was spent shopping, fine dining, hanging out with friends, and sight seeing. One New years Eve day we did a 7 mile run; it was one of the most pleasant runs I did all year. We ran over the Brooklyn bridge which was scenic and exhilarating. The bridge was busy with a lot of other tourists, but it was nice to slow down so we could check out the views and take some of our last pictures of 2011. On New years day we did the observatory at Top of the Rock which provided the most incredible views of the city. We also visited Rockefeller center and the world famous Christmas tree a couple of times. The entire city is so elaborately decorated and festive for the holidays. Almost every storefront and building is done up with lights, Christmas trees, Menorah’s, gingerbread houses, and even moving window displays with music. It’s really all quite magical and quite possibly one of my favorite places to visit during the holiday season.
When I look back at 2011 I can’t help but smile. It truly brought me great happiness, and I can only hope that 2012 and each year to follow is as good to me as the last. I’m well aware that life isn’t always sunshine, rainbows, and roses, but I have aspiration of a continued great life. Because, life is short and I intend on living it to the absolute fullest. So here’s hoping 2012 is much like our 2nd New Years in NYC…bigger and better than ever!
Wishing each and every one of my readers much happiness, health, and love for all of 2012!
Happy New Year to all!
