Tori Amos has been one of my all time favorite singers/songwriters dating way back to when I was in high school, which I can assure you, was many years ago! She’s been one of my biggest influences and inspirations regarding my own music and singing career. Although, I’m clearly not nearly as famous or successful! 😉 She’s an incredible talent with an eclectic and original sound and style, and is an amazing live performer. Yes, I’ve seen her. I also admire her continuous embodiment of female activism, and her involvement with RAINN throughout her music career.
I recently discovered Tori’s new song Promise, which is a beautiful duet with her daughter Tash. Being a new mom, this song truly hit home. My daughter is five months old, and every day I strive to not only be her mother, but also her friend, and to be there for her no matter what life throws at us. And more importantly, I vow to accept her for exactly who she is as she grows up into a child and adult. This morning, I watched the video with my daughter, and she gazed smiling with curious eyes and “singing” along the entire time. She absolutely loves music, and loves even more when I sing to her. Not that I want to age myself or rush these amazing years of infancy and childhood, but I long for the day when I can sing with my girl – no matter what kind of voice God gave her. It’s something I dream about. Music is a beautiful thing – it’s the “universal language.” Its power is healing, inspiring and motivating.
So readers, especially moms, if you aren’t familiar with Tori’s new song and video Promise, I’m strongly recommending and urging you to check it out. It’s beautiful, and I’d bet money that it will in some way move you the way it moved me. I’m also excited to announce that I’m running a giveaway contest for one week – two lucky winners will be selected at random to win a free copy of Tori’s new album, Unrepentant Geraldines.
