Well, it’s been a while since I’ve had the chance to sit down, relax and write for me. I don’t know about the rest of the world, or my blog readers, but I am excited to start a new year! 2012 was an incredibly memorable and special year for us. But with that said, I’m looking forward to another fresh start and chapter in my life.
It’s no surprise to any of my friends, family or blog readers that my husband and I have done a complete 180 when it comes to diet. I recently posted a blog about how amazing juicing has been for us and it continues to be. Over the course of the last five or six months we have gained so much wisdom when it comes to eating healthy and being healthy, and in return, we have cut out so much junk from our diets.
It’s amazing for me to look back to my high school years and see how much I’ve learned and changed in terms of health and fitness. Back in my teenage years soda and fast food was a staple in my diet. I was about 150 lbs and little did I know that I wasn’t very healthy. Over the years I became more and more interested and excited about exercise and eating right. Some of that learning and changing was trial and error, and if you told me one year ago that I was eating unhealthy I would have said and thought you were wrong. Now, was I completely unhealthy? No. But was I really and truly eating healthy? The answer is also no. The difference is, I didn’t realize it. What I thought then and what I know now are two very different things.
While flipping through the channels one night, my husband and I stumbled on Dr. Joel Fuhrman, author of the best selling book, “Eat To Live.” We were quickly interested and intrigued in what he had to say so my husband bought the book. And just like that, our lives changed once again. Dr. Fuhram explains how unhealthy Americans are due to diet (no huge surprise). But what might surprise you is what some of those foods are that are slowly killing us. He explains that we can all decrease our chances of cancer by 90% with diet. That heart disease and heart attacks can be avoided almost 100% of the time with diet, unless you have a genetic disease or defect. How is this possible? It’s starts by cutting way back on animal protein and eating a plant based diet. Even the leanest chicken and turkey is linked to cancer and heart disease. He has had incredible success reversing 100s of patients reverse diabetes, heart disease and aggressive cancers all by doing one simple thing. Changing their DIET!
There is proven evidence with research and studies that Americans are dying at an earlier age than people in other countries because of these diseases. Americans consume more calories per person than any other country in the world and our eating habits are killing us. The evidence is scary and true, but it’s not too late to save yourself from becoming another statistic.
I’ve posted so many updates via Facebook, Instragram and Twitter of raw juices we make, vegetarian meals we cooked, and even recipes. I cannot believe how many emails, texts and Facebook posts I’ve received just since the new year of people asking me what kind of juicer we have or what the recipe is for something. All I really want to do is help show Americans they don’t have to be sick and unhealthy. Personally, I cannot believe how much energy I have since I’ve been eating healthy. I’m also sleeping better which is huge because I’m typically a terrible sleeper. To boot, I’m at the skinniest I’ve ever been ranging between 119-121lbs. My husband is back down to his cycling “race weight” and looks damn hot if I might say so myself!
80% of your health and weight comes from nutrition. It’s fact. Just because you went to the gym for 60-90 minutes does not mean you can down a can of soda and eat a Big Mac and be “OK”. You didn’t earn it! What you should be eating is GOMBS; greens, onions, mushrooms, beans/berries and seeds. If you eat a diet 90% in GOMBS and 10% of animal protein or “junk”, then you are on the right track. Have you ever researched which has more protein, broccoli or steak? I’m willing to bet not, but the results may surprise you. Why? 100 calories of broccoli (about 12 oz) has more protein than 100 calories of steak (about 1 oz). You can eat as much as you want, but of the right foods!
If you are serious about getting healthy, being healthy and staying healthy then I strongly urge you to check out Dr. Fuhrman’s book “Eat To Live.” It just might change your mind about nutrition, teach you how to be healthy, and save your life!
