For the past five months, nap time has been a free for all in my house. Sometimes they happen, sometimes they don’t. I recently started realizing that my daughter is a very unhappy girl if she doesn’t take a decent nap. She started sleeping through the night (most nights) around 10 weeks, but recently started waking up once or twice on the nights she didn’t take a good nap. Essentially no nap results in her tanking by 5pm, not nursing well due to over exhaustion and then waking up in the middle of the night desperate for a midnight snack.
So this week I put my foot down so to speak, and am quickly getting her into some sort daily of napping routine. She tends to be a bit of a cranky pants when she wakes up from her afternoon naps, and I find holding her close and singing a few songs really helps to soothe her. Today I sang Amazing Grace for the first time and like most songs, it calmed her right down. It’s a favorite classic of mine, and I decided to record a quick impromptu singing vlog in honor of nap time. I’ve also been singing a quick nap time lullaby before I put her down. So whether it’s before or after, I incorporating music with nap time is a great way to settle, soothe and calm. And remember, it doesn’t matter how you sound, just sing it with a smile 🙂
I recorded this about 20 minutes post nap so viewers don’t endure the sobfest 😉
