I recently connected with a fellow expectant mommy and blogger. I’m enjoying catching up on her journey and I love the recent pregnancy survey she posted (that she “stole” from a friend). I thought it was fun and cute so decided to borrow it as well. Hopefully she doesn’t mind š You can check out her blog and pregnancy journey here: The Baby Doctors Wife
Pregnancy Survey: Week 15
My age: 32
How far along: 15 1/2 weeks (I’ll be 16 weeks on Saturday)
How big is baby: According to my “I’m Expecting” app, my baby is about the size of an apple and weighs about 1.75 ounces.
What have you been up to: LOTS of exercising! My husband and I have also been discussing baby names and now that I’m not working I’ve been keeping our house neat and tidy with laundry, cleaning, errands etc.
Exercise/Activity Level: The first two months I worked out, but because I was so exhausted it was definitely more difficult to keep up with my normal routine. In the last three weeks I’m back to a five day workout schedule of barre classes, power walking, hiking, trainer rides on my bike and lots of weights, squats and lunges. Although I used to do a lot of running; I decided I don’t feel quite comfortable with it during pregnancy so power walks are what I’m doing instead.
Maternity clothes: I’m still able to fit into my regular jeans and I either wear a bella band or have an elastic around the button to give my growing belly some more room. I had to buy a bigger bra two weeks ago (which is already getting too tight!) and I bought a few size small maternity shirts that are a little big now, but I’ll grow into. I bought a bunch of new regular skirts that are stretchy and I love wearing those or dresses. Oh, and I bought one pair of maternity leggings that are by far the most comfortable pair of pants I now own!
Stretch marks: I had a few of these already from years ago when I had gained weight in high school. Oddly enough, they never really bothered me. They are so light that my husband never even noticed them and I always look at them as a friendly reminder that I once weighed between 150lbs-155lbs and worked incredibly hard to become tone, lean and fit and brought my weight down to the low 120s. I haven’t noticed any new ones and I started using cocoa butter to help prevent them.
Belly Button: Way too early for any changes there!
Sleep: The one thing I miss about the first trimester is how AMAZING I slept! I have definite sleep issues and have for many years. Unfortunately, now that my energy level is back my insomnia is making a come back as well. I figure I should be well prepped for motherhood with my experience in lack of sleep!
Newest baby milestones this week: According to my “I’m Expecting” app, my baby’s skin has developed and the skeletal and muscular systems continue to develop as my baby becomes more active. Some hair also known as the “lanugo” are also developing all over my baby’s face and will shed before birth.
Best Moment of the Week: Waking up to my husband staring at me calling me “mama” telling me how cute I look.
Worst Moment of the Week: Three nights of horrible sleep and one pregnancy migraine
Food cravings: Food! My favorite topic :)! I assumed I’d be craving ice cream and cupcakes and all sorts of terrible things for me, but truthfully, I haven’t had a lot of that. In the beginning I started craving McDonald’s which blew my mind because I literally haven’t had fast food in over 10 years. I refused to give into that! Lately my cravings have been cheese, fruit, olives and anything juicy and cold. I LOVE making frozen fruit smoothies with Greek yogurt and basically lots of watermelon and berries. I’ve also craved sushi, one of my favorite foods, several times and opted for veggie rolls which are decent but not the same!
Food aversions: The first trimester was horrible for this! I was hungry but NOTHING appealed to me! There are still certain things that make me turn my nose up such as grilled chicken on the bone. For some reason, unless it’s a boneless piece of chicken between a bulky roll, it grosses me out. I also usually LOVE Thai food, but since the first trimester the thought of Thai or Chinese food grosses me out. Certain smells really throw me off too like every time my husband cooks with garlic! It makes me want to run out of the house!
Symptoms: I’ve had a few pregnancy migraines which are horrible! Usually they last me two days, the first day being the worst where my head just throbs and throbs. I had one last night and this morning, but luckily since taking my barre class it seems to have resolved itself. I tried Tylenol once (my Dr approved this) and it did absolutely nothing for me so I don’t even bother now. I’m not a big pill popper anyway so when I get them I usually ask my husband to massage my head and I put an ice pack on it.
Movement: A few times this week I thought I may have felt something, but it was so slight and brief that it was hard to tell if it was the baby moving or not. I cannot wait to feel consistent movement though!
Gender: We find out in 11 days!
What Iām looking forward to: I cannot wait to see our baby on the monitor in my next ultrasound and I cannot WAIT to know the gender! Once we know the gender we’re going to register and start working on the nursery!
What Iām nervous about/praying for: My biggest fears are the health of our baby. I don’t care if it’s a boy or girl, I just really want a healthy baby. I hate hearing about birth defects and diseases and autism, it just breaks my heart. So above all, even above my own personal fears with pregnancy and child birth, I just want this baby to be a healthy one!
What I miss: Have I mentioned that I miss sushi? I also miss my smaller and more fit looking body. It’s amazing to me how quickly my body is changing and as I’ve mentioned several times, it’s definitely an adjustment. I really miss my smaller thighs and boobs! Most women love the growth in their breast size, but I am over it! I was already between a C and a D before, I don’t need any help in this department. I feel like they’re suffocating me. Anyway, everyone keeps telling me how great and small I look, but when I look in the mirror I don’t feel that way at all.
Next appointment: September 9th, my fetal ultrasound! Praying our baby is in a good position to find out the gender and that everything looks A-OK!
