I’ve never been much of a drinker, and even in my college years, I pretty much stayed clear of alcohol. I’ve never been hung over, I don’t have any crazy stories about stumbling home from a bar, I’ve never lacked memory from what I did the night before and I’ve never once been sick from drinking. I’ve met people along the way that poked fun at me for having a water in my hand rather than an alcoholic beverage, but there are a couple of reasons why alcohol and I have never really got along…
1. I simply don’t need to drink to have a good time. My dad always says I’m high on life, and I’ve never needed an ounce of anything to have fun or let loose. I’ve been the girl at a club doing splits on the bar 👈 that right there is me as sober as can be! I dance my @$$ off until 2am with nothing more than ice water – on the rocks with a twist! And I’m always happy and willing to be the designated driver so everyone arrives home safely.
2. I’m terrified of throwing up and I am a pathetic drinker. I literally can’t feel my limbs after about two or three sips and the muscles in my neck always get tight. Therefor I’ve always stayed clear of drinking too much to avoid any chance of vomiting.
Now, let’s fast forward to my 30-something year old stay at home mother and entrepreneur self. Every day I’m juggling the responsibilities of taking care of my daughter, maintaining our house, running errands, writing for my blog as well as paid writing gigs and creating a business. All the while still fitting in runs, barre classes and workouts wherever and whenever I can. The cliché, “There aren’t enough hours in the day” seriously must have derived from a parent. Because it’s SO damn true. I’m constantly in a race against time, and I always seem to be running behind. So, what’s the perfect cure for an over tired, slightly stressed out stay at home mom? Wine! That’s right people, most nights by the time my daughter hits the hay, I’m screaming and begging for wine.
I’m still pretty pathetic at the whole drinking thing, and I can’t quite finish an entire glass, but I’ve found there’s really nothing better to help me relax and unwind at the end of the day than a nice glass of red. Or white. Or a stiff drink on the rocks! Hell I’ve even succumb to beer which is definitely not my favorite. But let’s be honest here, I don’t discriminate! And thanks to a friend, I recently discovered organic wine which has been a much better route for me because there are less sulfates which eliminates the tight muscles and hard breathing I tend to experience with regular wine.
I never would have thought that motherhood would actually drive me to drink! But there you have it folks – Motherhood requires Merlot. Or Malbec. And on some days it requires something stronger like a Martini or a Margarita! In a nutshell, I’m turning into a real high class top notch mommy drinking machine. I may not have much of a tolerance or be able to throw em back like a professional, but it’s no longer stopping me from filling up my glass! So… Show.Me.The.W🍷NE!
As always, I hope the day finds you well and the weekend treats you right. Cheers to a great one! Bottoms up blog lovers! 🍷🍸🍹🍺
