I admittedly don’t like Mondays. In fact, didn’t I just write about this last Monday?! However, today was a lot different than last Monday. Why? Because I actually woke up with some big news I was impatiently waiting for and I couldn’t wait to get the day started.
My husband and I have been online house hunting for months. Most of the time we are pretty in-sync with what we like and what we’re looking for. Of course, once in a while our tastes differ, but in the end we always seem to meet right back together. Last week we finally took the first step in the home buying process to find out if and what we could get pre-approved for. We quickly got great news so we set up appointments for a few houses that we have been eying. We were so excited, but had no big expectations to really find something we loved.
The first house we went to go see was one that from the pictures I really thought I was going to fall in love with. It was in a great town, the entire home was recently completely renovated and the professional staging and pictures were stunning. But from the moment I walked in I was disappointed and I looked at my husband and said, “This is not our house.” This quickly made me realize that pictures can be very deceiving.
The second home we really liked. There were certain things that I loved, but at the same time something didn’t feel quite right about it and I didn’t feel “home.” This house sits on over 2 acres of land, in one of our top choice towns and in a very quiet neighborhood.
Last, but certainly not least, the third home was one that quite honestly, I wasn’t jumping for joy excited to go see. My husband was adamant that there was more to meet the eye when looking at the pictures. It is in a great town, has a very convenient and prime location for both for our jobs, it sits on 1 acre of land, and is very unique. This house is definitely not vanilla or cookie cutter. As soon as we walked into this house I said, “Omg I LOVE this house! I like this better than anything else!” My husband was thrilled! The house was perfect! It is open concept with hardwood floors, a gorgeous kitchen, peaked ceilings with beams, a family room that is all floor to ceiling windows overlooking our side and back yard, a gas fireplace upstairs and a real fireplace in the fully finished basement. But what this house had that other houses didn’t have was character that truly meets and fits me and my husbands style. We were at this house for at least an hour, maybe a little more. In fact, we didn’t want to leave. It felt like home. I could literally picture us sitting in the family room or cooking dinner in the kitchen or sitting by the fireplace watching the snow fall outside. We left and both agreed that we loved it enough to put an offer on this house. Later that evening we learned that after a market analysis there is nothing else comparable to it out there. It’s so unique. We also learned there were two other interested buyers who were ready to put in an offer. I went into panic mode and my husband went into we “what do we have to do to get this house mode.” So, after phone calls, emails and electronic signatures we put in an official offer.
I barely slept a wink Sunday night. I woke up Monday morning exhausted, excited and very nervous. I thought about this house all night; I couldn’t get it out of my mind. What if we lose it? What if we get it? How soon do we move? How soon do we have to rent our loft? I kept telling myself all morning that if it was meant to be the sellers would accept our offer. All morning it consumed me, but I plugged away at work trying to tell myself we wouldn’t hear anything before I left the office. Mid afternoon we got an email update from our friend and realtor who said there were two other offers they were waiting for by 5pm, but that the sellers said our offer was excellent and were very excited to see how quickly we could move in. Soon after that another update, the second offer was in but that ours was better. Then after that a couple of hours went by my phone finally rang and it was our realtor…my heart started to pound. He said he had sent an email and asked if I read it, but I hadn’t seen it so he told me to go check it. In big letters it said they ACCEPTED our offer! I ran out of my office and was jumping up and down! I couldn’t believe it! It turned out the sellers didn’t want to wait any longer for the third offer. Ours was so excellent and they decided they wanted to accept ours and only work with us. Sweet success!
Even though Mondays aren’t usually my favorite, today was by far the most amazing Monday in a long time. My husband and I couldn’t be more thrilled and we cannot wait to start making new memories in a new home that we chose together that fits our style so perfectly. Happy Monday readers!
