So I realized that not only is today Friday (YAY), but that it’s also February 1st which marks the start of my “Blog a day” challenge. While I was excited to have the weekend just around the corner, I have to admit that I felt the “burden” of knowing I committed myself to writing a blog every single day this month. And speaking of commitment, today’s topic is “New Years Resolutions.” Although this whole blog a day thing wasn’t any sort of new years resolution, I do want to allow myself to take time to write for more than just my day job (which I must say I love!) more than just this month.
Now, getting down to topic. What was my “New Years Resolution? As any of my dedicated readers know I’ve written several blogs about juicing, eating more of a vegetarian diet and a few good books and movies that I recommend. I don’t usually make new years resolutions…like ever; it’s just not my style. But this year it was really important to me that I make a resolution to sticking to this healthy eating and diet plan that I’ve been on and quite honestly it hasn’t been all that difficult. I’m not much of a meat eater so cutting back on meat has not been much of a challenge for me. I love making raw juices with veggies and fruit and I love some of the new recipes and meals that my husband and I have made. It almost seems like it would be hard to go backwards now because we’ve become so accustomed to making lots of vegetarian dishes. We also make everything from scratch including hummus, salad dressings and tomato sauces. While pictures my friends post on Facebook and Twitter of cheeseburgers or a juicy steak used to look appealing to me, I can honestly and truly say that now when I look at it, it almost makes my stomach turn. My husband and I were watching Chronicle the other night (love that show!) and they were bouncing around to different popular restaurants in New England. Every time they showed a picture of a big high calorie “comfort food” meal I said out loud how it doesn’t even look appealing. Just the thought of it makes me feel fat, bloated and unhealthy. Now, that’s not to say that I don’t eat “outside the box.” I mean give me a break, I am human! But 90% of the time I am eating very clean, healthy, and meat free.
The biggest reason I’ve switched to eating like this is because I have an incredibly sensitive stomach. Last year was actually quite brutal for me in terms of gut health and once I changed my eating habits I started feeling better all around. So my real goal and resolution this year is to not only feel healthy, but actually be healthy and a huge part of health is nutrition.
