I dislike politics, and I neeever write about them, but today I’m feeling completely empowered to use my voice and make it heard.
Let’s start with why politics anger me. Every four years, candidates come along boasting how they think they’re the best, and how they’re going to make positive changes for our country. Along with their boasting comes the criticizing and insulting of the other candidates. Every single election it’s the same damn thing. They bully each other during debates and in commercials, and it’s a total disgrace. There they are, standing loud and clear in the public eye treating their opponents like assholes. I’m confused by this – it’s our job to teach our children respect. We don’t tolerate bullying on the playground, so why the hell are we tolerating it in office? And all of them do it. They all point fingers and focus on what the other person has done wrong in their career. They try to find success and acceptance in their opponents mistakes. Excuse me, but the last time I checked we’re all human and we all make mistakes. But there’s a vast difference between a strong person and a coward. A strong person will recognize their mistakes, learn from them, not allow their mistakes to define them and move on. A strong person won’t gloat in someone else’s wrong doing to make themselves seem better. A coward will do the polar opposite. Every election politicians feed off each others mistakes using it as ammunition to win. It’s an embarrassment to our country and goes against everything we’re trying to teach our children.
It’s our job to teach our children respect. We don’t tolerate bullying on the playground, so why the hell are we tolerating it in office?
Trump vs Hillary – yikes. In my opinion this election is by far the worst I’ve seen, and it boggles my mind that as a country we have allowed it to go this far and get this bad. For all the women out there, do I really need to explain myself as to why I think Trump is the worst possible choice for president – ever? I have never liked him. He’s a disgrace to mankind, he’s disrespectful, he’s dishonest and quite frankly I don’t think he knows his ass from his elbow when it comes to actually knowing how to run this country.
Then there’s Hillary. The woman who has allowed her husband to lie to her, cheat on her, disrespect her and sexually assault women in front of the entire country, all while standing by his side defending him for reasons in which I view only to help further herself in her own career. Hell to the no people – because if that were me, Mr. Clinton would have gotten his ass kicked to the curb a loooong time ago. And sorry, Mrs. Clinton, but do not stand on your podium putting on a facade saying you vote for women when you don’t even have enough self-respect or dignity to remove yourself from an abusive and unhealthy relationship. That people, is not the kind of example that I want representing our country, and it’s sure as shit not the kind of leader I want my daughter see representing our country.
Am I going to tell my daughter one day when she’s old enough that I voted for an unfit, pig-headed, male chauvinist pig for president? No. No I will not. Am I going to tell her one day when she’s old enough that I voted for a woman for president because while she was the “lesser of two evils” I didn’t trust a thing out of her arrogant mouth. Nope, I won’t do that either.
Let’s get real, there is a laundry list of reasons why I don’t like either candidate. Like Trump and his ridiculous wall. Or Hillary and her support of Monsanto. And while I’m keeping it real, I admit I don’t know enough about the other two candidates on that ballot to feel confident in playing eenie meenie miney mo. But what I am confident about is my decision in writing my toddlers name on that ballot today.
Everyone and their mother can sit here and tell me that I “wasted” my vote, but I assure you all that I didn’t. Because what I did today was use the one voice I have to tell this country that I don’t think either candidate is fit to be president. What I did today was use the one voice I have to tell this country that I absolutely refuse to lower my standards as an American by voting for the “lesser of 2 evils”, or anyone that I don’t believe in. What I did today was exercise MY right to vote for whoever the hell I want, and that it’ll never be someone I don’t put an ounce of trust in.
I voted for my toddler today because I truly see the change I’d like to see in this country in her.
You see, my daughter may only be 2 1/2, but if there’s one thing I am damn sure of, it’s that she possesses more integrity and kindness than Trump or Clinton will ever possess in their entire lifetime. Her personality, strong will, attitude and determination is strong, and so is her heart.
I voted for my toddler today because I believe that one voice can make a difference, and that the choices I was given weren’t up to par.
I voted for my toddler today because I refuse to help put someone into office that I don’t trust.
I voted for my toddler today because I refuse to vote for someone who I don’t believe is a good role model to our children, to our future or for our country.
I voted for my toddler today because I truly see the change I’d like to see in this country in her.
That’s why I voted for my toddler. #TeamCadence
