Sooooo, is it still acceptable to wish you all a happy New Year, or am I too late? I told myself I’d get on here and write a New Year’s post, but alas, here we are the last day in January and I’m just finally squeezing in the time. None the less I hope everyone’s year is off to great start.
The truth is, I did start writing post just before New Year’s, but then I decided it wasn’t something I wanted to share, and quite honestly, I didn’t finish it anyway. Life has been busy… really busy, but in a great way. I’ve been finding it harder and harder to find the time to jump on here and finish posts that I started a year ago, literally! But instead of finishing posts like my Top Ten Spin Songs (it’s coming, I swear!) let’s start with where I am right now and a bit about how I got here, shall we?
For starters, I can’t believe January is already over. I saw a few people post on social media that it feels like January 74th, but for me this month has flown by, and it’s because I truly have been incredibly busy. But I couldn’t be happier and more excited when looking back on January. Not only am I already checking off several things on my 2018 list of goals, but my husband and I also finished our first major home renovation this month and we are in the process of selling a second piece of property that we own. We’ve had a full plate between parenthood, both our careers and our personal life to say the least!
This January has felt sooooooo much better than last January. Somehow in the midst of 2017 I felt like a bit of plateau, but when I go back and really look at last year I realize now that it was actually a huge stepping stone for me and my fitness career. It was also a year where I found a new sense of peace and clarity within myself, my circle of friends and the direction I want to continue taking my career.
For a while I thought I wanted to land an Aerobics Director position at a local gym. Then I was offered a Head Coach position at a very popular fitness facility last spring, but I decided very quickly that it wasn’t what I wanted at all. I also had the opportunity to open a fitness studio with a friend, but after a lot of soul searching and thinking, it’s not what I wanted either. In fact, I’ve had this opportunity a few times now but something about it never feels like the right fit for me. My heart always goes back to organizing fitness events…
In 2015 I started doing some fitness classes at City Sports and Athleta, but last year was the first year that I started organizing my own events. They took off very quickly and my first one sold out within 14 hours of opening registration. The more of them I did the more the wheels in my head started turning. I’ve always loved special events, especially fitness ones. There’s something exciting about a room full of people all there for the same reason and you being the one who organized and created it all. But this year I want bigger, I want better and I want more. And that’s exactly what I’ve been working on this past month – new events, new venues and bigger things. Things that I’ve been dreaming about for several years now but didn’t think I could make it happen. But now that I’ve had a few business meetings I know I absolutely can make it happen!
I always follow my intuition with everything – people and situations. When something or someone doesn’t feel right, then it probably isn’t. I trust my gut fully and have learned to always listen to it, as it’s never once steered me wrong. Last year there were a few people and opportunities that didn’t feel right, so I kindly walked away from anything that didn’t prove to have a positive place in my life. This truly made stepping into 2018 feel like I was in a much better place than I was last year.
I will always be honest, live authentic and follow where my heart and passion take me. Last year was an eye opening year for me. I absolutely love working at a big gym with the opportunity to have a big group of people in my classes – and last spring I finally found a gym where I truly love teaching every week. I learned that when it comes to my own business “stuff”, I want to continue focusing on creating and organizing fitness events.
I have events scheduled every month up until August (so far) this year including more brewery events, vineyard events and a health and fitness workshop with a doctor who has studied nutrition and specializes in nutrition response testing. I’ve been a busy bee working out pricing, details, number of participants etc for all of them. But if you want to find out about the event that is my biggest goal for the year, and something I’ve been wanting to do for such a long time now then you’ll just have to keep following me, because it is something that’s currently in the works and I have a date in place for it 🙂
