Most moms I know are wine and coffee connoisseurs. Coffee gets them through those bright and early mornings after a long sleepless night, and wine, well that gets them through the witching hours and stress of a long and exhausting day. While the thought of surviving motherhood on these two things sounds oddly glamorous and sophisticated, neither really work for me.
Take wine, for example, which I’ve tried countless times, but without fail three sips in I can’t feel my legs, my breathing is tight and my chest burns with heartburn. The taste my friends, isn’t worth the after effects!
Now let’s take coffee. Aaaaaahh! The aroma of a hot-pot brewing in the morning seriously smells delicious, but unless I have about a pound and a half of sugar and cream in it, it just tastes awful to me. More to the point, I’m incredibly sensitive to caffeine, so it not only makes me jittery, but gives me heart palpitations and worse, triggers anxiety attacks. So yea, I’m definitely the odd mom out who doesn’t reach for the cup of coffee or glass of wine. A sip here and there on occasion, but that’s about it.
Now let’s get to tea – because I LOVE tea! And if you follow me on social media then you probably already know this about me. Peppermint tea, green tea, ginger tea – I love love love it! It calms me and it comforts me, and it very rarely gives me the nasty side affects that wine and coffee give me. So when I was contacted by Adam Matossian, founder of Hunters Tea Co, to do a review on their new organic tea company, it was a no brainer.
I was up front with Adam and let him know that I am super sensitive to caffeine, so he suggested three great flavors that are low in caffeine – Organic Japanese Sencha, Organic Fine China Jasmine and Organic Eggnog White -which is my favorite out of the three. In my starter kit I also received a perfect teaspoon, tea filters, a steeping guide and organic honey and sugar. I’ve tried all three and I have to tell you all that I’m mildly obsessed! This is not just any tea we’re talking about, this is high quality loose leaf organic tea and it is absolutely fabulous.
I drink at least one cup of tea every single day. Tea’s that are low in caffeine, specifically the ones from Hunter’s Tea Co, give me a great boost of energy before teaching a class or going for a run. Whereas decaf tea’s help me decompress after a busy day and even help aid in healthy digestion.
Referenced from a great article written by Runner’s World, tea has many health benefits, as it contains vitamins and minerals and is loaded in polyphenols, which are disease fighting antioxidants that can help prevent heart disease and cancer. Studies have also shown that tea helps aid in weight loss, helps improve dental health, increases bone density and boosts immunity. It’s also estimated that approximately two cups of tea is equal to about one serving of fruits or veggies. posted in
Personally, when choosing teas I always try to go with organic, I like the good stuff and I don’t mind paying a little bit more for it. I say all the time that I’m a food snob, and well, I’m also a bit of a tea snob too, and Hunters Tea Co definitely gets two thumbs up and stamp of my approval. I will definitely be buying a new stash when mine runs out, and I’m excited to try their new line of Organic Wellness Blends.
