As a fitness fanatic and professional, I pretty much live in workout clothes. Between teaching several group fitness classes a week, running and my own workouts it’s pretty much exercise tanks and leggings all day, every day. And as much as I love to be girly and dress up, I’m definitely more of a sporty kinda gal.
One thing that has always frustrated me about exercise clothes is feeling like they permanently stink after a certain period of time. Now some of you might be thinking, “What?! Gross!” But for any of you fitness guru’s that are reading this, or even the mom’s with kids in school sports, I knooooow you are over there shaking your head thinking, “Yup! The struggle is real!” Take for instance a pair of running underwear I have owned for a while. Yes, I even have exercise underwear, and yes I want to keep it real so let’s discuss them for a hot minute, shall we? They’re comfortable, they don’t ride up and they wick away sweat, and they were amazing until they permanently started to smell like I had just worked out. I’m pretty certain when I don’t want to workout near me because I stink, nobody else wants either! Let’s be real here!
But it’s not just exercise undies I’ve had this problem with, it’s bottoms and tops too. And let’s not forget the undeniable stench of my husbands cycling clothes. I can’t even. Essentially, it’s been really tough to get certain pieces of fitness apparel to actually smell fresh and clean after putting them through the wash. That is until I was asked to test out and review HEX Performance.
So here’s the thing, and I’ve mentioned this in past posts, but when any company approaches me to review their product, I absolutely make sure that it is A. Something that I would actually use and B. It fits in with me and my targeted audience. So normally a laundry detergent wouldn’t be something I’d get excited about, but in researching HEX Performance I learned that this detergent was designed to specifically remove the odor and bacteria from clothing, and geared towards performance wear, which immediately peaked my interest. I was also intrigued to find out that HEX is green. Which simply means the detergent is eco-friendly, and it won’t damage your clothes or our environment.
Most detergents include strong fragrances, which hide the stench of dirty laundry. HEX is designed to deep clean your laundry to not only eliminate the smell, but the bacteria that gets soaked into your clothes. HEX offers two kinds of detergent, Free & Clear without fragrance and Fresh Clean Scent with just a hint of fragrance that won’t linger on your laundry. Something I learned and found interesting while perusing their website is that sweat is odorless, and that body order occurs when the bacteria on your skin soaks into the sweat, which then becomes trapped in your clothes. Can we say yuck! And last but not least, I also learned that most detergents are designed to clean cotton and linen, they’re not designed to clean and remove bacteria from moisture wicking synthetic fabrics. HEX Performance is. HEX also helps protect fabric from becoming damaged over time.
I received two bags of HEX Performance to try, Free & Clear and Fresh Clean Scent. I have tried them both, and both work great. After a few uses I have noticed a difference in some of my older performance wear that I was struggling with to remove the odor. It’s a product I will definitely continue to use and recommend, especially if you’re active.
